Trial Run for G10 and... Myself

[info]barefootlawyer and I finally went to have our promised jog! Well, actually it was a walk but considering how unfit we are, we decided to start slow. LOL

It was an absolutely torture trying to wake up early today but I managed to do it! We went to Bukit Timah Park (?) next to her home and we walked for approximately 45 minutes to an hour before heading back to the poolside to cool our feet. Hillview is a cool condo! I love the pool and the layout of everything.

I took my G10 for a trial run during the walk. Images are super sharp! I left it on auto because I haven't had the time to learn how to use the functions yet but I took 26 photos in all. The pictures' quality have been comprpmised since I had to scale them down for loading. I have not discovered a quick and sure way of uploading 7mb sized pictures. XD

Soon... soon I shall master the technique of using shutter speeds and aperture!

Images behind the cut! )
P/S: I realized after posting that the photos are REALLY pixelated! My apologies. Ah well, maybe I can find a way the next time round.

A Time of Celebrations

  • Feb. 8th, 2009 at 1:30 PM

Chinese New Year isn't over for my family. Not yet. I'm expecting some relatives over this afternoon/ evening? I've woken up to the spewing vacuum cleaner and my parents hasty speed-cleaning preparation for people coming over.

Anyways, this pic was due long ago. One of my breakfasts of cny leftovers.

Mee hoon, satay, fried chicken wings and a cup of tea to wash all those oil down my abused oesophagus.

The past working week flew by me. I've been getting busier and busier and whenever it seems that I may get a breather, things start coming in again. I'd made a few mistakes but managed to quickly fix the problem without the important people knowing any better. Hahaha. I'm such a shithead.

Dad's birthday was a simple dinner out at a void deck tze cha near our home. Meet the birthday boy!

On a random note, I think my memory is failing me! I booked tickets for Doubt yesterday and told my friend that the movie was at Cineleisure when it was actually booked for The Cathay. As a result, we were both so very confused because I know I wouldn't book it at Cineleisure. Fortunately, my friend drove and we hopped to The Cathay and I was right, I DID book it at The Cathay! I wonder what was going through my mind when I was smsing the details over.

Braudy hell. Need to eat gingko nuts!

Casual Poet

I've known about Casual Poet for some time now, mainly through blogs and recommendations. So today I decided to find the place and sate my curiosity once and for all. I have to admit that the place took me some time to find... even though it was situated in a prime area. When I finally got to Causal Poet, I was more than a little disappointed.

First of all, the place was TOO small! I was expecting it to be more spacious because that's how it looked like on their blog. The shop was narrow and long and not the sort of place that I will turn into a bookshop due to the layout. Products-wise is okay. They have stuff brought in from Hong Kong and Taiwan and even some local prints which is a good thing but I feel that there won't be that many people wanting to buy the books as they're more coffee table books than actual reading materials. This is especially so when their target audience is supposed to be a young crowd - not independent people with lots of disposable income who will buy pretty picture books. Their photography and design books are interesting though. Chances are that people will be more likely to buy their other products like tote bags and vintage journals.

Part bookshop, part cafe. I ordered an iced coffee and it turned out more milk than coffee which sucks totally. [info]alerione seemed to like his iced forest fruit tea however, so it may be that coffee isn't a speciality. Still, $5.50 per cup is a little on the expensive side, Starbucks would have been a great alternative for coffee hangout.

Right, so I have beaten Casual Poet's reputation down like nobody's business but there are good sides to it. I adore the furniture. The tables, and benches and even the nifty red painted windows panes added to a real nice cozy feel. You can feel that the owners do put in a lot of thought and details in the shop because you can spot little messages like this one that was stuck on our table.

Yes, I do realize that there are typo errors. But that's the nicest part of it! ^^ It makes me feel like taking out my mum's old typewriter and doing things like that too.

I thought this was a really good idea for a reusable, cheap coaster. Don't you think so?

In case you're curious about the place, here's how it looks like.

I didn't manage to get shots of the windows because the window seat tables were occupied.

Well, it was nice but I don't think I'll be going back to Casual Poet anytime soon, unless they bring in some new stuff that I REALLY want to get my hands on.

After coffee/ tea, we headed out and I saw this!

OMFG. These RA films are still showing in Singapore?! How rare is that?! I've never watched one of these RA films in a cinema before and I really feel like going to one just to get an experience. But... I is afraid to go alone! LOL Maybe I shall ask my R21 movie buddy along. LOL Somehow I don't think my buddy will want to watch any of these.

I'm rather glad I brought my camera. Because I got something unexpected. And oh, don't you just dig these hand painted posters? I wish we did more of these nowadays!

First Attempt for Holga

leaves
I'd finally got my photos developed. [info]barefootlawyer will be glad to know that her success rate is higher than mine because I'd only four photos that managed to get developed. Wtf. LOL.

I'm not quite sure why the photos are mostly tinted blue because the ones that I did use the blue filter did not managed to get developed...

If you're interested to see the photos... )
Comments appreciated!

Holga

  • Oct. 25th, 2008 at 11:26 PM

I'd heard of the Holga from various blogs and friends but was never interested in them mainly because it's one of those traditional cameras (some even say toy camera) that still uses rolls of film. Developing the film and the film itself are already big burns in the pocket. But I happened to chance upon a gallery filled with pictures made from a Holga camera and lords! The various effects are so pretty!

So, I googled the Holga and found even more about it and I am just adoring the candy coloured Holga!

A starter kit costs less than SGD300... I can't believe it.

Nearest place I can get is from Hong Kong and my parents are still there. Unfortunately, they are not answering my smses so I'm really not sure if I'm able to get it by tomorrow. >.< Mummy, please call me!

Point and Shoot

  • Aug. 19th, 2008 at 11:38 PM

After getting my usual updates from The Sartorialist, I'm really glad I hadn't invested in that Canon SLR camera that I've been hankering after for a long while (still is hankering...).

He stated that "the most important rule is not a big camera or complicated lights but anticipation" and his photos are his children are simply wonderful. L had once said to me that it's all about the angles and practice, not the type of camera you use. But greedy little me still wanted a SLR for... well, just for the sake of having a SLR.

So right now, it's more practice on my lill' point and shoot camera. I wonder if any of the shots I've done lately are interesting in any sense to you guys because I almost never get comments... >.< Oh yeah, and photoshop of course, to cover up any deficiencies on my shooting skills.

What I really want though is to brush up on my portrait shots.

On a totally different note, tour package to Korea booked. I shan't be here from 6th September till 13th September!

Massive Table-Top-Still-Shots Post

  • Aug. 12th, 2008 at 1:44 PM

I've been trying to improve my table top still shots. There's still a long way to go before I master it though, I've entirely no knack in the arrangement... What better way to start than shooting photos of my breakfasts!? ^^
