Aging Ungracefully

  • Nov. 30th, 2008 at 10:33 AM

I have one more project to go. Yikes! Is very very late in handing in. I wanted to do over the weekend but... super busy wor. I'll be busy till I return from the wedding lunch later in the afternoon and even then I don't feel very well. >.<

Not only do I have chronic fatigue (I call it that at least) but I think I'm falling sick as well. Braudy hell. It's the worst possible time to fall sick! Barely three weeks since working, I can't take MC. I believe I caught the virus from this colleague who just came back from India. ARGH. I hope it's not some exotic virus. Sore throat and blocked nose and achy limbs is soo not good.

And then, lately I discovered that I've been showing signs of "advanced aging"! It's horrifying! My eye rings are so bad no matter how much I sleep. The fine lines that are not so visible is highly visible right now. The lines have really deepened and it shows after a long day's work because my make up has melted. It's worrying because it's THAT BAD. Eyes are constantly dry and red from staring at the computer screen the whole day. Eye drops can only help so much.

The pigmentation problem I have on my left cheek is getting worse as well. I swear that it's gotten darker and larger. Even my sister told me that. =(

My chin's congestion problem is back with a vengeance and the black heads on the T-zone area are stubborn like hell. No matter what serum I use, how many times I scrub and squeeze, they'll be back the next morning.

To make things worse, because I've been eating and sitting all day long, I've been developing a tummy! My metabolism rate is no longer like before when I can eat and not put on any weight.

I'm feeling really sorry for myself. Although I know that women starts showing signs of aging at 25, I didn't expect my turn to come so soon. I thought maybe when I'm 28 or so because that's when my sister really showed it. T.T So, these are the things I promise myself to do by the end of next year.

1. IPL the bloody pigmentation.
2. Microdermasion facials to get rid of the chin problem and the black heads.
3. Gym or workout or... or... something to tone up my body and rid myself of the stupid tummy problem. It may even help with the chronic fatigue.

Does anyone know how to improve fine lines? I heard the Biotherm Peel Off Mask works wonders but I want more alternatives that really work!

More Food...

A little late but RMK is in Singapore! For those who don't recognise the brand, RMK is the Japanese version of Chanel. It was briefly made available in Singapore many years ago until they closed their counter in Shaw Isetan. It has reopened their counter there again and I believe it's going to do much better now than before.

And because I can, a picture to show that I saw the less than spectacular fireworks on the 22nd and 23rd August.

Ate at this place at Takashimaya. Food was not bad but too much fried food makes eating the entire meal a bit difficult.

After class, I went to this small eatery at Sunshine Plaza (?) in Bugis.

Oh. I went to the supermarket with mum and dad too.

I like the vege stands most! )

Skin Food Celery Soft Foam Cleanser

My Rating: 3 / 5

Review: I was rather amused at the "foam" statement. Usually, the foaming type of cleanser I had used consisted of real white foam, akin to those you see on your except less dense. The celery cleanser's foam looked like styrofoam at first glance and upon lathering, it feels more creamy than the usual facial foams on the market. And yes, it does smell like celery!

After almost a month of using the product, I feel that I can give an adequate opinion. First off, the cleanser does its job. Face feels fresh and squeaky clean right after washing. Downside of this is that it is too squeaky clean. For some, like me, the skin may feel a little on the dry side after constant usage of the cleanser. Coincidentally, my chin's acne outbreak stopped as well but I'm unsure if it has got something to do with Haba's White Lady or the change in my facial regime.

Kiehl's Brightening Botanical Clarifying Toner

My Rating: 2.5 / 5

Review: I've heard some really great reviews on Kiehl's products. Supposedly good, so I decided to give it a go. Maybe it's because I'm already pale..., I don't see any "brightening" effects from using the toner. Note that I use this toner daily. My skin texture was mostly improved from the application of other products.

I can't even outrightly state that the toner is fantastic... With my previous use of Neutrogena non-alcohol toner, I used to see dirt and leftover make up that hadn't been removed totally on the cotton wool. With Kiehl's, I hardly see anything on the cotton wool. Can't be that my Neutrogena oil cleanser is THAT good, can it?

Latest Addiction

  • Jul. 2nd, 2008 at 9:39 AM

My latest addiction is Chanel's nail polish,  Lotus Rouge #455.

I have finally found the exact shade of red that I love, and can wear to work and can wear for "punk" effect and even looks good on my hands. :: pirouettes ::

The only problem is that it's rather nasty to remove...

HABA White Lady

My Rating: 4.5 / 5

Product Review:
HABA's White Lady is supposed to clear clogged pores, has anti-aging purposes, smoothen skin, and has whitening effects. True to its claims, I have seen a distinct before and after effect since using WL and have been using it ever since.

My skin HAS been smoother, make up glides really nicely on my cheeks now as compared to before. I'd clogged pores on the chin for awhile, which lead to congested acne there too. It's horrid to see new pimples popping up EVERY DAY. The entire area was red and sensitive. I had tried Cellnique (another product I recommend) and it worked until recently when the condition came back. So I stopped using it at night and applied WL over the area. Voila! Problem solved. Unfortunately, the WL is not suitable for applying on the eye area.

It is pretty expensive but only a few drops are required for application over the face. Worthwhile investment because a little bottle may last you just about one to two months.

Neutrogena Oil Cleanser

My Rating: 4 / 5

Product Review:
Good oil cleansers are really hard to find. Some end up being too oily and leaving yucky residue all over. I'd tried a couple of really good ones though, like Anna Sui and Neutrogena's oil cleansers. Both cleansers are also make up removers, hence it's two-in-one convenience.

Neutrogena's a lot cheaper than Anna Sui though. Priced in the range of $26, it's really value for money. The light berry scent is wondrous as well. One squeeze is more than enough to remove make up on the face and all you need to do is to rinse it off.

Despite this, eye make up may prove a little tricky. I have long since deduced that eye make up will never be able to be completely removed unless you spend an extraordinary amount of time wiping the eye liner and mascara away. At least Neutrogena managed to remove most of the eye make up with only a little smudge mascara left behind.

Rouge Bunny Rouge Aqua Primer

My Rating: 3.5 / 5

Product Review:
The RBR aqua primer is supposed to be really popular. Imbued with vitamin A and other stuff. I admit that upon application, the primer feels really cool on the skin. But I cannot really see any visible difference from using it unlike the other Anna Sui primer that I have.

Perhaps my skin IS really absorbing the substances and that I don't realize it but if I can't see what it can do, then there's really no point to it. I won't be buying it again that's for sure.

Rouge Bunny Rouge Liquid Foundation

My Rating: 3 / 5

Product Review:
The RBR liquid foundation is said to be good as well. And on certain grounds, I guess it is. It's certainly light enough. On the other hand, if you are like me, who prefers foundations with a slightly creamier texture and is also looking for more coverage, then RBR liquid foundation may prove a little disappointing. It is too light for concealing. Other than that, the foundation goes on really nicely.

The problem with circles

  • Jun. 15th, 2008 at 6:04 PM

For those who know me, dark eye circles have been a chronic problem for me all my life. I have since been resigned to the fact that dark eye circles can't be treated with eye gels but that didn't stop me from buying them and trying them out anyways. Even if the gels don't lighten the darkness, they do reduce the puffiness and lines somewhat.

What incited me to write about this?

"creams and serums might help a teeny bit, but not much, since the problem is often a hereditary pigmentation problem...

...products that contain plumping ingredients like AHAs, or vitamins C and K to thicken skin and lays out the unsexy truth that sometimes the dermatologist or (eek!) plastic surgeon is the best and only recourse.
"

~ How to get rid of dark eye circles? by Jolie Nadine

Ah, I guess I was right after all, the only way to go is to get the help of a plastic surgeon. Strange though, because my sisters don't seem to be afflicted by the same genetic defect.

Walking unzipped around Orchard

  • May. 4th, 2008 at 12:54 AM

And so... the bloody denim shorts I bought at Soon Lee decided to pop during a loo trip and I walked around flashing my white panties and pubes in Orchard Road for the entire day . Luckily, the fabric was stiff and the shorts were tight so no one can really tell that the zipper was er... spoiled.

Met a friend whom I haven't met in months. She said I looked chic which I'm glad for because it was the exact effect I was trying to get with the short hair. Not to mention my whole obsession with the chic androgyny look nowadays. The meet up and get updated session turned out great and we ended up with a shopping spree. That, had not been my intention since I wanted to save some money for a new mobile phone and leather bag. My spoils:

1. Haba White Lady which I swear by. $120 because I thought I might as well buy the biggest bottle since I'm using it every night and it's way more economical.

2. Anna Sui pressed powder refill. Used my birthday vouchers so it cost me nothing! ::pirouettes::

3. One lingerie set and one extra bra from une nana cool which I swear has the cutest and prettiest underwear designs. I should buy more panties because those tend to wear out faster. >.<

4. A chic little black dress from GG<5. $180 is a little too expensive even for me but I promised myself I'll wear it often.

I am sooo not getting a leather bag this month. I may still decide to get that absolutely desirable LG Viewty phone.

Product Review: Kiehl's Eye Alert

  • Apr. 17th, 2008 at 9:54 PM

I've been using Kiehl's Eye Alert for several weeks now so I feel like I can write an actual review. I was at the Kiehl's shop at Tangs the other day, intending to buy a cucumber toner but ended up getting something else. While browsing, I chanced upon this eye cream. I totally drilled the poor sales assistant that day. They have so many product range and types, I was confused.

For the eye cream, I picked out three different ones and questioned the SA mercilessly about each product's properties. She didn't quite meet my expectations because I wasn't too convinced by her explanations and they didn't help in any decision making. In the end, I read the labels on the eye creams and decided to get eye alert. The other reason was because it was the cheapest range out of the three. I thought "why not try this first before I buy some expensive gel that may not work?". Indeed.

Frankly speaking, I haven't read any raving reviews on this particular product. I just decided to try it on a whim. My eyes did actually need a lot of help because it was over exerted from squinting too much at computer screens and glaring small numbers. It was perpetually puffy and the dark eye circles seemed to get worse and worse. Even my Bobbi Brown concealer could only hide 50% of the dark under eye shadows. Worse, about half the day would pass and I could see fine lines and creases when the concealer had melted.

My first night using the Eye Alert led to surprising and noticeable results. My eyes were instantly less puffy. Even my mother commented on it. The ingredients had somewhat hydrated the sensitive skin around the eyes, so fine lines and creases are no longer so evident. Even my dark eye circles seemed to lighten at one point.

Alas, it may be my lifestyle but the dark circles persisted and the gel after its initial results didn't seem to be able to decrease the shadows. The severe puffiness, however, was consistently absent. I can tell because I used to wake up with red blood shot coupled with puffiness, now I wake up with red blood shot eyes minus severe puffiness. I guess unless I totally abstain from computer life, this redness and dryness will be with me for the rest of my life.

The conclusion is really whether the Eye Alert is value for money. For a small tube of eye gel that costs over SGD40, I would very much prefer to buy a tube of Stricvectin that not only costs $100 more but also comes in a much bigger package.

Product Review: ModelCo Makeup Remover

  • Apr. 10th, 2008 at 10:33 PM

I mentioned that I bought a makeup remover from Model co from here. It was a new brand that I had seen in Metro Paragon. Well, maybe not so new now.

As with all narcissists, I have grown obsessed with finding the best product to remove all makeup without doing any damage to the tender facial skin tissues. I've tried some brands, from Shisedo to Ponds, then to Anna Sui and lately L'occitane. My newest addition to the series of trials and experiments is REMOVE from Model co.

I had a chance to use it today. I must admit that REMOVE managed to whisk away most of my makeup in a jiffy. I may have botched the first attempt however, as I did not have enough foam to properly remove the eye area. Hence, there were still leftover mascara clumps on my eye lashes. In spite of this, there's no doubt that REMOVE does it jobs as it name suggests.

The fact that it comes in a small bottle, handy enough to carry in hand bag makes the makeup remover highly portable. Besides that, it requires very little water to completely remove makeup. Designed for models on-the-go, the product enables convenience and mobility. In addition, the SA told me that a tissue is enough to remove the foam after cleaning. All the better if you're outside or traveling.

Edit: I guess I shouldn't be too hasty to do product reviews, especially when I've only used it once. After numerous tries, I believe that even though this particular make up remover is able to remove most of the make up on my face, it still needs a little help on the eye area. I had tried using slightly more of the remover on the eye area, in spite of that, mascara and concealer at the edges and corners of my eyes could not be removed properly. The worse part of it is that it really stings when some of the remover gets into your eyes.

Cosmetics Stock Up

  • Mar. 21st, 2008 at 3:09 AM

It's atrocious how much you can spend on cosmetics alone! I agree with you (you know who you are), we girls spend way too much on these things...

Rouge Bunny Rouge Liquid Foundation $88
Rouge Bunny Rouge Aqua Primer $86

:: Been wanting to buy these since I first tried their products. ::

Model Co Make Up Remover $36.40

:: Recommended by Rouge Bunny Rouge sales assistant. Cosmetic range from an ex-model. Very on-the-go skincare and makeup kit. ::

Benefit BOI-ING Industrial Strength Concealer $41

:: Tried this before many years ago and works wonders! ::

Kiehl's Non-alcoholic White Brightening Botanical Toner $56

:: Initially, I wanted to get the cucumber toner but the sales assistant recommended this one for my skin type. ::

Kiehl's Eye Alert $41

:: Unplanned purchase because it's time to get rid of those panda eyes. *crosses fingers* ::

And I still have to replenish my Haba White Lady! It's a total of $348.40 at one go! >.< Dude, we should start encouraging each other to save money!

I got a free lipstick from Rouge Bunny Rouge. They are currently running a couple of promotions so those of you who wants to get anything from them better buy them soon. Kiehl's gave me two WHITE range product samples too. I guess once I religiously start using these products I will be posting my opinions soon enough. ^_^
